What Tattoo Ink Is Made Of

Certain compounds are generally common to all tattoo inks, though patented brands contain different specific ingredients in varying amounts. Companies that produce tattoo ink are required to have the pigments used approved by the FDA, or the similar organization in their country, before selling it. According to the FDA, other health and safety regulations concerning tattoos and tattoo inks are supervised by local jurisdictions.

    Brown, Red and Orange

    • These inks may contain ochre, iron oxide, napthol, disazodiarylide and cadmium selene-sulfide.
