How to Get Sponsorships for the Arts

Creating and running an arts project is not always cheap and often arts institutions do not have a lot of money. Although some community support is often available, this may not cover the costs of a large production or tour.

Sponsorships are available for the arts through several different sources, but are highly competitive. It is often a good idea to hire a professional writer to draft your grant or sponsorship application to prevent costly mistakes. Sometimes the writer's fee can be added to the sponsorship request.

Instructions

    • 1

Check into corporate sponsorship programs for the arts. This is a highly competitive field but can mean big bucks if you are successful. Many corporations have tightened their sponsorship budgets, but will add their name to your production if it is impressive enough.

    • 2

Look for artist groups or coalitions in your area for grants. Many local artist coalitions give small grants and sponsorships for arts projects. For example, the Asheville Area Arts Council gives grants locally.

    • 3

Seek government grants from the state or federal government. For example, the Ohio Arts Council provides grants to artists of all kinds. The federal government also awards grants through the National Endowment for the Arts.

    • 4

Read the guidelines carefully for whatever path you choose and write the grant or sponsorship application to those guidelines. The field is so competitive that one mistake may cause your application to be thrown out.
