How to Draw Clothing Using Software

Various Internet games exist where you create your own content, such as Sims or Second Life. From clothing to cars, you can make various additions to your virtual avatar with software programs like Adobe Photoshop. Drawing clothing using Adobe Photoshop takes some experience. However, if you have a Wacom Tablet or other digital tools pen software, you can draw clothes just like you would in real life. Drawing basic clothes is easy with your mouse, too.

Instructions

    • 1

Download the Chip Midnight master clothing templates from AnnoToole.com. These are avatar templates for "Head," "Upper," "Lower" and "Skirt."

    • 2

Load Adobe Photoshop and open the template in which you want to work. For this tutorial, choose the "Upper" template to make a shirt.

    • 3

Create a layer by going to "Layer" at the top. Select "New" and then hit "Okay." Select the layer in the layer palette on the right side to work on the layer. Make sure the layer is beneath the seam line's layer.

    • 4

Choose a brush and color to work with. Paint on the front side of the template around the colored seam lines, and then fill it in. You do not have to be precise, as changes or fixes can be made later.

    • 5

Cut out along the lines with the "Eraser" tool. First erase around the necklines. You can create various looks with what you erase, but for now start with just the neckline.

    • 6

Add in details such as symbols or lettering across the front of the shirt with the "Shape" or "Text" tool.

    • 7

Hide all other layers except for your colored-in shirt layer and the details. Choose "File" and then "Save As" from the drop-down menu. Once the dialog window pops up, type in your shirt's name and save it as a ".TGA" file. Select 32-bit, uncheck "Compress" and then hit "Okay."
