Find a bed frame that you would like to use as a base for the airplane bed. It's easier to begin with a preexisting frame because then you will not have to start from scratch.
Measure the length and width of the frame. Also measure how high the base is from the ground.
Sketch the bed frame with a pen and a pencil on a sheet of paper. Draw it lightly so you can easily draw on top of it.
Consider what the front of the bed will look like. For an airplane bed, you will need to sketch a conical shape, much like the nose of an airplane. To do this, draw a cone with its base at the foot of the bed.
Detail the triangular prism to look like an airplane. This will vary depending on the type of plane you'd like to use to design your bed. For example, if you are using a fighter jet for inspiration, the nose of the plane needs to be pointed and long, so sketch the tip of the cone with extra long lines to make it appear pointier. If you are using a Boeing aircraft, you need the tip to look more rounded, which you can do by drawing a semicircle or curve.
Draw the wings next, using triangular prisms coming from the side of the bed. Again, the exact shape of these will be determined by you and the type of plane you are looking for. Regardless, the ends of the wings should not come to a point, so erase the triangular prism's tip and add a line to create a polygonal shape. Draw a wing on both sides of the bed.
Draw the head of the airplane bed as the tail and rudder of a plane. Use the same technique you used for the wings to draw tail fins (although make them smaller) and draw these near the headboard. You can also add another "wing like" shape coming straight up above the headboard if your bed has enough room and support for that.
Add dimensions to everything you have drawn so when you start to build it, you will know what size you are trying to make. If your bed is 6 feet long, a good dimension for the length of the base of the wings might be 2.5 to 3 feet. The length will depend on personal preference and size of the room. Include a dimension for every line you have drawn.
Use colored pencils to add any color or logos for your airplane. You could draw the American Airlines symbol, for example, or include mock windows along the base of the bed. In the cockpit you can even draw two pilots. Get creative and draw anything you might see on a plane.
