Dove Tattoo Ideas

Doves are a universal image of peace and love. There are many kinds of dove tattoos that can be portrayed to this effect and others that can take on completely unique meanings. As with any tattoo, they can be done in traditional black and gray with white highlights or done in color, depending on your preferences. You should go through a lot of deliberation and consideration before deciding on a specifc tattoo.
  1. Peace Dove

    • The image of a dove carrying an olive branch is a biblical symbol for peace in the Christian faith, but has since become universally recognized. You can choose to tattoo a single dove carrying an olive branch in fight, or a single or group of doves perched on the branches of an olive tree. Both portray the same peaceful meaning, but the perched doves may be a little less generic and more of an original idea.

    Love Doves

    • A dove tattoo that can signify the love shared between you and a significant other can be two small turtledoves nestled together to form a heart. You may wish to add initials to clarify the meaning of the tattoo or leave it as is, to symbolize a meaning shared only by you and your loved one. They can be perched on a branch, if you wish or simply suspended in air, holding each other to form one shape.

    Anti-Ozzy Dove

    • Infamous heavy metal icon Ozzy Osbourne once bit the head off of a dove to shock and impress studio executives. The incident was well documented and has since become legendary. Now, while a "nature in reverse" tattoo of a dove biting the head off Ozzy Osbourne may be a bit elaborate for some, a simple dove perched upon the word "Ozzy", circled and slashed, can have the same effect in a much less graphic way.

    Tribal Dove

    • Tribal tattoos are an Aboriginal design of intersecting lines that can form a variety of images. This image can easily be a dove, standing in a perched formation or wings spread apart as though in flight. Traditional tribal is done in solid black, but any solid color will suffice. You can also choose to shade the lines rather than fill them in completely, again with either black or color.
