Members of the Christian faith might consider tattooing a cross, rosary beads or the image of Jesus Christ. You can have any one of these images tattooed to different parts of your body or combined to form one tattoo. Rosary beads work best around the wrists or ankles, but a cross or Jesus portrait can appear most anywhere on your body. Keep in mind, most portraits have a large amount of detail and require more space to display adequately.
Muslims who are devout in the faith of Islam are strictly forbidden to be tattooed in anyway, unless you were tattooed before converting to Islam. However, if you are not a devout Muslim but simply wish to get a tattoo representing Islamic culture, you might consider the image of the crescent moon or Islamic script in Arabic or Farsi. The traditional crescent moon design is depicted in one solid color and is partnered by a five-pointed star between the moon's points. For an Islamic scripted tattoo, choose a name, word or phrase pertinent to the faith, and have it designed in a native language to the culture. In all instances, images of the prophet Muhammad are forbidden and considered extremely offensive.
The most predominant image in the Jewish faith is the overlapping of two identical triangles, forming a six-point Star of David. This image can be tattooed to most any part of your body and can be either one solid color or shaded. A scripted Judaica tattoo can be done in Hebrew characters made to read any word, name or phrase you desire. Certain Jewish denominations, such as Orthodox and Hasidic, do not allow their followers to be tattooed in any way.
Followers of the Buddhist faith can tattoo an image of the Buddha in one of two ways: The Chinese Buddha, aka "The Joyous Buddha," depicted as well-fed and smiling, or the Indian Buddha, represented by the praying prince, Siddhartha. Each image is indicative to the particular faction you follow, and each have different stories. For a scripted Buddhism tattoo, choose between the Indian and Chinese faiths to determine the appropriate characters.
