One of the most popular pastel colors is pink. A light coral shading of pink is commonly found in pastel art sets and is the typical pastel pink, but other shades of pink can be pastel as well. Hot pink is not included in the pastel range, since "hot" or "neon" colors are often categorized separately.
Blue is another popular pastel color. Very light blue and pink pastels are often used to designate the difference between baby boys and girls. Dark blue does not fall into the pastel color range. A pastel blue contains more white pigment and therefore has a very pale appearance, such as a sky blue effect.
Pale yellow (not lemon yellow) is a pastel color often associated with springtime and Easter celebrations. Pastel yellows are not glaring and have a soft, almost flat appearance.
There are several earth tones considered to be pastel colors, though most people don't typically think of them as falling into the pastel range. Light brown (more tan) and extremely light green colors are examples of earth tones that fall under the pastel color range.
