How to Shade in Tattoos

Tattoo designing is not very hard for some but when it comes to shading, the creativity in it can become difficult. There are many ways to shade a tattoo, whether black and white or colored. An unshaded tattoo can look old fashioned or unprofessional, while a shaded tattoo will really "pop" and come to life. To achieve a great piece of artwork you need full concentration while doing a shading effect.

      Dip the needle in the desired color of ink being used to shade in tattoo. To get a lighter shade of color, dip the needle in water before piercing the skin. This will reduce the amount of ink that stay on the skin.

      Tilt the needle while piercing the skin to create different effects. This technique will allow you to create different styles in certain areas creating a completely unique tattoo.

      Adjust needle depth on the gun to create different shades of tint. To create darker shades, the depth of the needle should be more and to create a lighter shade the depth should be less. The depth of the needle on the gun will directly affect the amount of ink penetration, which will create the different effects.
