DIY Flash Modifier

A flash is an external light source for a camera that is used to add light to a scene so the resulting picture is brighter and more detailed. Professional flash attachments and diffusers can be expensive, especially compared with the cost of creating the same effects yourself with household materials. With a little creativity and ingenuity, you can create your own flash modifiers.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the size of the face of the flash -- the glass or plastic rectangle where the light comes out.

    • 2

Mark off a rectangle of the same size on the wax paper.

    • 3

Add 1.5 inches to each dimension to make a larger rectangle.

    • 4

Mark off a 1.5 inch-by-1.5 inch square in each corner of the rectangle.

    • 5

Cut each square out of the corners of the rectangle until you have a cross.

    • 6

Tape the sides together and then tape the box to the flash.
