How to Put on Square Gauges

Stretching your body piercings allows you access to a new world of custom body jewelry. Stretched piercings are most often seen in the earlobes and the jewelry worn in these piercings are called plugs. Although often referred to as gauges, this is incorrect as gauge only refers to the thickness of the jewelry. When you insert jewelry in stretched earlobe piercings, you are inserting plugs, not gauges. There are plenty of variations on traditional round plugs, including teardrop shapes and squares, and they are all inserted the same way.

Instructions

    • 1

Wash your hands, plugs and earlobes with antibacterial soap and warm water. Massage your earlobes as you wash them to relax the skin.

    • 2

Lubricate your earlobes using a water-based lubricant or more liquid soap. You can lubricate your lobes by lathering them well with a pea-sized amount of soap or rubbing a pea-sized amount of water-based lubricant on each lobe. It will take approximately three to five seconds to rub the lubricant on each lobe.

    • 3

Push the plugs into your piercings from front to back or back to front. Alternate the direction of insertion each time you insert your plugs - changing the direction of insertion helps to prevent blowout.

    • 4

Rinse excess lubricant off your earlobes with warm water. Dry them with a paper towel.
