How to Design a Tape Measure

Tape measures are practical and necessary items ideal for doing any housework or odd jobs. Designing your own will give you flexibility and help you reach all those tight corners to get perfect measurements. You can revamp the classic tape measure design and create a funky floral pattern. Tape measures do not need to be boring household essentials. Create a small pocket-sized measure or a large child-friendly tape measure. Once you have outlined the basic shape, design all different kinds of tape measures if you plan to market your tape measures.

      Research different types of tape measures on the Internet. Investigate the various designs and patterns that will help to inspire your own work.

      Sketch the basic outline of a tape measure. Once you have this you can adapt and manipulate the design to however you want. Draw a square in the center of your paper to create the shell of the tape measure. Draw a rectangular hook attached to the left-hand side corner. Draw a rectangular strip seperately to show variation and angles regarding the tape measure design. Using a ruler mark out the centimeter and inch lines.

      Copy your guideline and add a frog face to your design. Attach large circular eyes in the center of the shell and a small curved nose. Color in the shell of the tape measure green. Sketch the hook on the corner like a tongue. Sketch the rectangle to represent the ruler shape of the tape measure. Color it in red to be like a tongue, and add black lines to represent the metric systems.

      Experiment with your design. Create a floral shell. Draw several flowers all over the case of the tape measure. Continue drawing flowers onto the ruler section of the tape measure. Color the base white with brightly colored flowers. This will make your tape measure more appealing to females, in case you want to market your tape measure..

      Try drawing different materials. Create your tape measure design out of sponge so it is light and flexible. Color the base in a bright color and highlight the texture.
