Black Light Reflective Materials

Black lights project ultraviolet rays that cause some materials to glow. Dermatologists use black lights during a Wood's lamp exam to detect bacterial or fungal growths on the skin by holding a black light over your skin in a dark room. The doctor looks for areas that emit a subtle radiance. Black lights are also used in settings such as parties and night clubs to make images glow.
  1. Paint

    • Black light reflective paint, which is also called UV reactive paint, is similar to standard paint in its texture and application. Black light paint is available in a range of colors and depicts that color under normal light. When you turn off a standard light and switch to the black light, the colors become incandescent. Some neon paints naturally glow under black lights. Small murals on a child's bedroom wall that glow after dark are a twist to standard kid's room décor.

    Tattoo Ink

    • Black light reflective tattoo inks are invisible under normal circumstances but glow in the dark under a black light. You can get a completely discrete tattoo using UV reactive ink entirely or add details to standard tattoo ink designs. For example, consider highlighting around the eyes of an animal or accenting the petals of a flower. Some tattoo parlors may not carry this type of ink because it can react with skin on more occasions than standard tattoo ink.

    Textile Ink

    • Textile ink that illuminates under a black light adds a unique twist to standard clothing and dance apparel. In plain light clear black light ink goes unnoticed on clothing but once UV rays reach the ink it glows blue. Adorn dancewear with shapes and words, such as the dance team's name, and choreograph a recital under solely black lights. Ask the audience to wear dark clothing so neon fabrics don't outshine the performer's electrifying wardrobes.

    Clothing

    • Special neon clothing available through some brick-and-mortar and online retailers reflects brightly under black light UV rays. Entire outfits made from this textile, including T-shirts, tank tops and skirts, help you stand out in the crowd. Add mesh arm warmers or gloves to a basic outfit for a bit of glow with an edge aesthetic. Hair accessories such as bows, dies, headbands and gels also subtly accentuate your look.
