Scan your image using the highest possible DPI or quality setting.
Open the image in an editing program. Crop and resize your image to fit on your ceramic object. Add text and make any other desired changes to the original image. Flip the image to make a mirror image of the original photo. The printout must be backwards for the image to transfer correctly on your ceramic.
Insert a single sheet of decal printer paper into your printer’s paper tray with the white side down. The image will print on the white side.
Adjust your printer settings to print at the highest quality setting and highest DPI without using too much ink. The draft setting, if available, will print a high quality image with minimal ink.
Print the image and allow it to dry for half an hour.
Cut out the image and place it in water for about a minute. In the meantime, paint a thin and even coat of turpentine on the target surface of your ceramic object.
Take the image out of the water and remove the backing paper.
Lay the image carefully, printed side down, on the target surface of the ceramic. Use the roller to eliminate any bubbled or creases. Let the ceramic and paper dry thoroughly for a few hours.
Spray the image with three coats of polyurethane spray, letting the spray dry thoroughly between coats. Each coat takes 5 to 10 minutes to dry.
