Stretch the canvas by mounting it on a stretcher bar support framework. This will prepare the canvas for framing or hanging.
Print out the word art that you intend to put on the canvas on a piece of paper. Remember to use colored ink if the word art is not black-and-white. Wait for the ink to dry.
Staple the word art to the canvas to prevent it from wrinkling as you perform the transfer process. The canvas often has a special surface that has a repeating grain designed to reproduce the consistency the original piece of artwork had. The surface can have a texture that looks 3-D, mimicking that of a canvas that the artwork was actually painted on.
Brush on two or three layers of the acrylic paint medium. The medium is a special kind of acrylic that takes the ink from the word art. When the coating dries, the film is embedded.
Spray water with a spray bottle or brush water onto the canvas until it is slightly damp. Do not soak the canvas. Carefully place the printed word art paper on the canvas, keeping the paper flat. Apply gentle pressure to the paper, starting at the center and moving out to remove any air bubbles.
Wait for the medium to dry completely, which will indicate that the word art has transferred to the canvas. Moisten the canvas with a spray bottle or brush and use a stiff-bristle brush to remove all the paper from the canvas. All that should be left behind is the canvas with the word art transferred to it.
