Instructions

    • 1

Research the artist you want to interview. Include in your research information about his history, development, techniques and achievements to be more informed when you interview the person.

    • 2

Research how to contact the artist. Visit his website for direct contact information, or get the contact information of the gallery that represents him.

    • 3

Contact the artist or his representative. Let the person know you would like to conduct an interview. Make sure to mention if the interview will be published and where it will appear.

    • 4

Schedule a time and place for the interview. An intimate setting, such as the artist's home, will provide you with personal details about his life, while a busy, public place will provide insight into how he interacts with his environment.

    • 5

Meet the artist at the designated time and place. Bring a pen or pencil, notepad and recorder to document the interview. Do not arrive late.

    • 6

Introduce yourself to the artist and make initial small talk to establish a dialog. Begin the interview once you and the artist are both comfortable.

    • 7

Ask questions about topics found in your research. Ask open-ended questions that begin with who, what, where, why or how.

    • 8

Thank the artist for his time when the interview is over. Answer any questions he may have.
