Create your own gold medals out of 2-inch flat, round paper mache discs. Paint the discs with Gesso (a primer) and allow to dry. Create four stars out of card stock, glue two together each and attach to the discs. Spray the discs with gold spray paint in a well-ventilated area. Allow one side to dry before spraying the other. Glue the ends of 1/2-inch or wider pieces of ribbon and allow to dry. This project can also be used to make silver and bronze medals with the appropriate paints.
Purchase a plain wooden frame with enough space in which to glue embellishments. Use peel-and-stick sports team sticky foamies, which can be purchased on sites like Making Friends, to decorate the frames, which should feature a picture of the sports team for which you or your child plays. Magnet strips may be purchased off the same website to peel and stick to the back of the frame as a refrigerator or locker decoration.
Create your own version of the ceremonial Olympic torch with one sheet of white construction paper, red, yellow and orange tissue paper in 12 by 12-inch squares of each color and clear tape. Roll the white paper into a cone shape and secure with tape. Layer the tissue paper starting with the red, then the orange and the yellow on a flat surface and gather the paper from the center as though you are creating a tissue paper bouquet. Place white glue inside the top open end of the cone and attach the tissue paper. Allow to dry.
Create a paper plate soccer plaque in your child's favorite colors to display in her room. Paint a paper plate red (or any desired color) and allow to dry. Print out and cut an image of a soccer ball and glue it to the plate's center. Cut 24-inch yellow crepe paper into five strips, ensuring the three middle strips are larger than the two strips that will go on either end. Attach a variety of colored pom poms around the plate's edge as a border and a piece of yarn on the back of the plate as a hanger.
