How to Use Colored Acrylic Shapes for Art

No one said that art had to be painted. If you are trying to create a new and unusual work of art, try mixing up the concept of "painting" by using colored acrylic shapes as a base for your artwork. This layered method of painting can give your work complexity and stimulate intrigue, as well as help you learn how to modernize your art. Before you begin, choose the coloring you would like to use throughout the rest of your painting.

Instructions

    • 1

Paint several pieces of paper using acrylic paint, to be the foundation for your shapes. Try to use at least three differently colored sheets of paper to give the painting interest.

    • 2

Allow the paint to thoroughly dry.

    • 3

Cut out shapes from the painted pieces of acrylic paper. You can choose to cut out geometric shapes or more avant garde shapes.

    • 4

Glue your cutouts to the canvas. Here you can choose to create a single layering of shapes for the painting's background or overlap them to create a collaged effect. Allow the glue to dry completely before proceeding to the next step.

    • 5

Load acrylic paint of your choosing onto the bristles of a wide paintbrush. Add water to the acrylic paint. Pull back the end of the bristles to splatter paint over the colored shapes.

    • 6

Repeat step 5 with different colors of acrylic to add depth to the painting.
