How to Make Gesso From Gypsum Sheetrock
Gesso is a form of plaster and was used extensively during the Renaissance era for fine art and in creating molding. Gesso may be used in fine art to prime canvas and for sculpturing, and it may also be used to create crown molding and molding surfaces for gilding. Gypsum Sheetrock is plaster between sheets of stiff paper with a cardboard seam binding. You can make gesso from gypsum Sheetrock.
- Grounded Gypsum Sheetrock
- Woodworking glue
- Honey
- Spoon
- Nonporous bowl
- Nonporous container

Ground up 1 tbsp. of gypsum Sheetrock with the back of a spoon and set aside.

Stir together 1 tsp. of woodworking glue and six to 12 drops of warm honey in a nonporous bowl such as glass.

Mix in the grounded gypsum Sheetrock and stir thoroughly until there are no lumps left. The gesso should have a pancake consistency. Add a little bit of water if necessary.

Store the gesso mixture in an airtight nonporous container such as a glass jar.
