How to Refresh a Sharpie

Sharpie markers come in a wide array of colors and styles, from fine points to specialty tips. Although they contain a generous supply of ink, they will not continue to function well if you forget to cap them. When your favorite pen dries out, refresh a Sharpie with a basic ingredient and a simple process. Within minutes, your Sharpie will be ready to use again.

Instructions

    • 1

Uncap the isopropyl alcohol, and fill the cap about halfway with alcohol.

    • 2

Remove the cap of the Sharpie, and insert the tip into the alcohol in the cap. Keep the tip of the marker submerged until you notice ink begin to appear in the alcohol. This should take less than one minute.

    • 3

Remove the Sharpie from the alcohol and replace the cap. Set the capped Sharpie down horizontally, and set the timer for approximately 15 minutes.

    • 4

Uncap the marker and test it. Draw a squiggle on a piece of paper. The Sharpie should write again.
