Choose your Moleskine notebook from models such as the Moleskine Large Notebook, which has dimensions of 5-by-8 inches, or the Pocket Notebook, which is slightly smaller at 3.5-by-5.5 inches.
Find the right pen for your Moleskine notebook by trying out different pens and inks on the somewhat smooth Moleskine paper. The Pilot G2 pen provides a smooth, deep ink but requires that you wait a few seconds before closing the notebook to prevent smudging. If you prefer to snap the book shut or turn a page quickly then try the Zebra Sarasa quick-drying pen. Also consider the Space Pen which is small, non-smudging and very suitable for Moleskines.
Stick a strip of male hook-and-loop tape to the front or back of the Moleskine by using some liquid glue or even a hot glue gun. Fix the female part of the hook-and-loop tape (or the opposite to whatever you put onto the notebook) to a few inexpensive pens by placing some glue on the tape and wrapping it around the pen. If you don't want to fix the tape to the pen, simply pin the pen between 2 strips of hook-and-loop tape (one of which is attached to the notebook).
Take a piece of ribbon (preferably elastic) that is 30 to 40 percent taller than your Moleskin. Make a 1/4 inch slit near the middle of the ribbon and another slit about 2 inches below the first one. Then glue the top and bottom of the ribbon to the inside cover of the Moleskin. Slide your pen through the slits you made, leaving the pocket grip of the pen on the outside of the strip created by the slits.
