How to Decorate a Box Using Pyrography

Pyrography is the act of burning marks and pictures into wood for decoration purposes. The artist uses a heated rod or poker to burn in an image. This is a great embellishment to use for a wooden box and has great meaning to the artist and the recipient of the gift.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase a wooden box that serves your specific purpose. Perhaps it is a jewelry box or maybe a box to store larger items.

    • 2

Buy the hardware for the box. You can find supplies online, including hardware, at Scorch's pyrography website.

    • 3

Search for a pyrography craft kit, which are available at most craft stores. Select the kit that decorates as much as you want to learn how to do. Kits come complete with a branding tool to decorate on leather as well as wood.

    • 4

Outline the chosen image onto the box with the branding tool. Lightly go over the outline with the color of your choice, using colorful ink or paint applied with a fine brush.

    • 5

Allow the paint to dry and cover with a clear finish.
