Determine the subject of the story. When considering the subject of the work, try to think of an idea for which you can find objects or materials. An example would be a story box about different shapes, such as triangles, ovals, circles, squares and rectangles.
Gather your materials for the story box. You will need either a cardboard box, a plastic container or a wooden chest to hold the materials. For your story, you may choose to cut out the paper shapes and put them in the box. Make a paper triangle, oval, circle, square and a rectangle.
Write notes about each object in the story box, and how it will tell the story. Each object of the story box must be part of the story. For example, your story is an educational story about geometric shapes. The triangle will be used when you describe how triangles have three sides and three angles. You will display the oval when you describe how it is oblong. You can show the circle when you state how it is round. You will take out the square when you want to display how all of the sides and angles are equal. You will take out the rectangle when you describe how all of the angles are equal and each pair of sides is equal.
Make a written version of the story using the story box. For example, your story may include an introduction about the various geometric shapes. Then, you will write about the properties of each shape. The conclusion of the story will state that understanding the different shapes will help with more advanced concepts later on.
