What Can Be Used to Clean a Dry-Erase Board?

Dry-erase boards, or whiteboards, have replaced the traditional chalkboard in settings like classrooms and offices. A dry-erase board is made of glossy material that can be written on with special non-permanent markers. Dry-erase boards can be used over and over and are easily cleaned. Traditional chalkboard erasers can be used as well as many other methods.
  1. Vinegar

    • Whiteboards can be cleaned with a mixture of vinegar and water. The mixture should be sprayed on the dry-erase board and wiped off with a cloth. For the best results, a ratio of one part vinegar to three parts water is suggested.

    Dry-Erase Marker

    • A dry-erase marker will get rid of marks left on dry-erase boards. Use a dark-colored dry-erase marker to trace over marks left on the dry-erase board. Erase new marks with a paper towel or cloth.

    Non-Abrasive

    • When cleaning a dry-erase board, it is best to use non-abrasive erasers or cloths. Abrasive materials will leave scratches in the whiteboard, making it harder to remove the ink from the surface.

    Toothpaste

    • Toothpaste has a mild abrasive that is useful in cleaning surfaces. Spread toothpaste on the whiteboard then wipe with a soft cloth.

    Hairspray

    • Spray the surface with hairspray and let it dry. Wipe the surface with a soft cloth then wipe it clean with soap and water to remove any stickiness remaining from hairspray.
