How Do I Change a Traffic Receiver Unit ID?

Traffic receiver units are components of Global Positioning System units that provide live traffic information. This equipment makes a GPS more useful; while getting directions for the fastest route from point A to point B is very important, a traffic receiver will tell you where there are current traffic delays. While GPS signals are sent from satellites, traffic receiver units get their data from suppliers that collect information from road sensors, radio signals, city transportation cameras and helicopter traffic scanners. Your traffic receiver unit may be built into your GPS or be purchased as a separate unit.

Instructions

    • 1

Plug in your traffic receiver and turn it on to get to the main home screen. Click on the "Menu" option.

    • 2

Click on the "Settings" option and scroll down to see the traffic receiver's unit ID. This section will have the original traffic receiver unit ID from the owner's manual inputted. A unit ID is needed in order to get a subscription to receive information.

    • 3

Acquire a new 25-character traffic receiver unit ID code from the manufacturer's website. Delete the old unit ID code and input the new one. Press "Enter" to return to the main home screen to begin your traffic receiver subscription.
