What are pageants?

A pageant is a public event or entertainment that typically features a procession, a competition, or a performance. This term comes from the Middle English word "page" but ultimately dates back to the late Latin noun paganus, which means rural or rustic, and pagus, which means village.

Examples of pageants could include:

- Competitive performances involving singing, acting, dancing, or modeling.

- Processions of floats, vehicles, performers, or participants to a certain destination.

- Theatrical performances or dramatic reenactments of historical or cultural events.

- Ceremonial events marking important occasions or milestones.

- Beauty competitions, such as the well-known Miss Universe and Miss World pageants.

- Agricultural fairs or festivals showcasing farm animals, produce, and rural traditions.

- Cultural or religious celebrations featuring parades, music, and artistic performances.

- Historical pageants that offer insights into the past and highlight significant moments.
