Did the witches target Macbeth because of lady Macbeth?

The witches never specifically target Macbeth because of Lady Macbeth. While Lady Macbeth's ambition and manipulation play significant roles in the play, the witches seem more interested in Macbeth's own desires and vulnerabilities than in his wife.
