How does Cleopatra kill herself in play Antony and Cleopatra?

In Shakespeare's play Antony and Cleopatra, Cleopatra does not kill herself on stage, but it is reported by Charmian that she has done so. After receiving false news of Antony's death, Cleopatra attempts to take her own life by allowing an asp (a type of venomous snake) to bite her arm, causing her death.
