What kind of clothing did the Maya wear?

Men:

- Breechcloth which is a piece of cloth passed between the legs and around the waist, and tucked in at the front and back so that both ends hang down.

- Tunic which was a sort of loose cloak or short-sleeved shirt.

- In cold weather a shoulder blanket known as a poncho was added.

- The headdress was important part of costume. Elaborately woven and decorated with brilliant feathers and jewels, it indicated the wearer’s rank and status.

- Sandals were worn on their feet.

Women:

- A long cotton skirt, worn below the breast, often embroidered or with a decorated border.

- Blouse or loose-fitting tunic known as a huipil.

- A quechquemitl, an over garment resembling a poncho.

- Shawl or carrying cloth in which to carry babies or other burdens on their backs.

- Elaborate headdresses often decorated with flowers and jewels

- Barefoot
