Shakespeare was part of the Lord Chamberlain's Men, later known as the King's Men, during Queen Elizabeth I's reign.

The company was originally known as the Lord Chamberlain's Men because their patron was the Lord Chamberlain of the Royal Household. However, after King James I took the throne, they became the King's Men as their patron shifted.
