How to Make a Knife for a Costume

Using a real knife as a costume accessory is unsafe for a child or adult. Instead of using a real knife, create your own costume knife from cardboard. The most challenging step of this project is finding the knife shape template. If you are a good artist, you can draw it freehand. Another option is doing a Google image search for knife, copying the image, adjusting the size and printing it out to use as a pattern. Tracing a real knife will also work, but do this with caution to avoid cuts.

Instructions

    • 1

Trace a drawing of a knife onto a piece of cardboard. Cut out the cardboard knife shape.

    • 2

Trace the handle of the knife onto another piece of cardboard, and cut it out. Repeat until you have four cardboard handles, the exact shape and size as the handle of the cardboard knife.

    • 3

Coat the cardboard knife with glue and completely cover it with aluminum foil. Allow it to dry.

    • 4

Glue two cardboard handles onto one handle side of the cardboard knife, and the other two pieces onto the other side of the handle. The blade will be sandwiched between the cardboard handles.

    • 5

Wrap black electrical tape around the handle of the knife and cover it completely.
