How does Katniss appearance change?

Katniss Everdeen's appearance changes throughout the Hunger Games trilogy in a few ways, both physically and in how she presents herself:

Physical Changes:

* Hair: Initially, Katniss keeps her hair in a simple braid, often dirty and tangled. As the story progresses, she gets it cut short, both for practicality in the arena and as a symbol of her growing independence. This is even more pronounced in Mockingjay, where she cuts it even shorter and dyes it black as a sign of rebellion.

* Clothing: Katniss initially wears the basic, worn-out clothes of District 12. She gradually acquires more sophisticated attire, but she never loses her practical sense. In the arena, she adopts camouflage and wears minimal makeup, focusing on blending in. During the rebellion, she wears more symbolic clothing, often a Mockingjay pin or a military uniform.

* Body: Katniss becomes more muscular and hardened due to the physical demands of hunting, survival in the arena, and later, fighting in the rebellion. Her once slim figure becomes lean and strong.

Presentation Changes:

* Makeup: Katniss initially avoids makeup, but during the Games she learns to use it as a tool. She applies it strategically to create a fierce, intimidating look, using charcoal and berries to mimic the look of a mockingjay. Later, she embraces makeup as a way to express her evolving identity.

* Expression: Katniss begins the story with a guarded and stoic expression. As she faces hardships and develops her confidence, her expression becomes more determined and even defiant.

* Style: Katniss's initial style is practical and simple, reflecting her life in District 12. As she becomes more confident, she starts expressing herself through her clothing choices, using color and style to communicate her strength and individuality. She leans into this in Mockingjay, using her image to inspire others and become a symbol of hope.

It's important to note that while her physical appearance changes, Katniss's core personality remains the same: brave, resourceful, and fiercely protective of her family and loved ones. Her transformations are more about adapting to her circumstances and using her appearance to convey her changing role in the rebellion.
