What is a fake goth?

Fake Goth or sometimes called 'Mall Goths' refers to a subculture that imitates the fashion and mannerisms of Gothic culture but lacks a genuine understanding of the underground music and culture. These individuals, often young, adopt the 'goth' aesthetic for aesthetic reasons, lacking the deeper connections to the music, philosophy and ethos of the goth subculture. This leads to critiques from traditional goths, who view them as superficial and inauthentic participants.
