How to Clean Stage Curtains

It may not cross your mind much, but unclean stage curtains can mar the success of even the most elaborate stage performances. The drapes are the first and last thing the audience sees when they enter your theater, so you want to ensure you clean them properly and keep them in the best possible working condition. If you let the regular cleaning of your stage curtains slide, you may also find yourself footing the bill to replace them.

Instructions

    • 1

Closely examine the nap of the fabric. The nap is the direction of the little loops that make up the entire fabric.

    • 2

Brush down your stage curtains with a lint roller to remove large composites of dust and lint. Move with the nap of the fabric.

    • 3

Vacuum your curtains. You may need to stand on top of a very large ladder to reach all of the curtain. Again, you must move in the same direction as the nap in order to properly hang the curtains.

    • 4

Apply dry cleaning solvents to any stains you encounter. Never use chemicals like bleach to remove stains, or you may blemish the fabric.
