One of the most common types of traditional lights in DJ and live performance application, the parabolic aluminum reflector (PAR) lighting instrument is a simple light known for its ability to project a broad wash of bright color over a stage. Chauvet's LED PARs add the effect of color-changing to this static (non-motorized) instrument, allowing a designer to hang fewer lights while still being able to achieve a full range of colors. These instruments can be ceiling-, pole- or floor-mounted and offer red, blue and green LEDs, which comprise the primary colors of light, allowing the operator to mix colors to achieve a wide range of looks. The LED PAR has a built-in program for sound activation, so the color will change with sound for music performances, creating the effect of the lights moving with the music.
Chauvet's "COLORado" instruments come in various sizes and varying features, but they offer a similar static light to the LED PAR. This line has the added bonus of being suited for both indoor and outdoor use, and some models include white LEDs to create a purer white light than can be achieved through color mixing with red, blue and green. In addition to sound-activation effects like the PAR, the COLORado line can be set to remember custom programming. These instruments are available in single units similar to traditional instruments, three-unit sets similar to standard strip lights and multi-light bars that create a long wash for larger areas.
Chauvet also offers standard special effects such as strobe lights and black light units that use LED technology. This allows for a larger wash of light compared to similarly sized lights that do not use LEDs.
The Sparklite LED star drop is another static effect from Chauvet. This unit is a fabric backdrop that contains 128 individual LEDs that can be lit to give the appearance of a starry night sky. Multiple drops can be hung together for spaces larger than the unit's standard 20-by-13-foot size.
