Tony Curtis

Anthony Curtis (born Bernard Schwartz; June 3, 1925–September 29, 2010) was an American actor. He is best known for his film roles in _Some Like It Hot_ (1959), _Operation Petticoat_ (1959), _The Defiant Ones_ (1958), _Sweet Smell of Success_ (1957), and _Trapeze_ (1956). He also starred in the television series _The Persuaders!_ (1971–1972).

Curtis was born in the Bronx, New York City, the son of Helen (née Klein), a homemaker, and Emanuel Schwartz, a tailor. His parents were Jewish immigrants from Hungary. Curtis began his acting career in the early 1940s, appearing in small roles in films such as _City for Conquest_ (1940) and _Yankee Doodle Dandy_ (1942). He signed a contract with Universal Studios in 1947 and quickly rose to stardom, appearing in a string of successful films throughout the 1950s and 1960s.

In addition to his acting career, Curtis was also a successful businessman. He owned several restaurants and nightclubs and also produced several films. He was married five times and had six children. Curtis died of cardiac arrest in Henderson, Nevada, on September 29, 2010, at the age of 85.
