Provide the basic information. The first paragraph should be a short and precise description of the basic information surrounding the performance. You should include the name of the play, the playwright and the director of the play, as well as the place and date of the performance. Give a brief overview, including summary and discussion of the plot and themes of the play.
Focus on the acting. In the next two paragraphs of your critique look into the two main actors and analyze their performances. Discuss how believable they were, how well they were cast, and whether or not they did the play justice. Discuss each performance with regards to the voice, the body and the projection of emotion.
Talk about the overall design of the performance. In your fourth paragraph, discuss the set and whether it established the right mood. Think about how the use of lighting conveyed emphasis. Suggest the effectiveness and appropriateness of costumes and makeup. Make reference to how the sound effects and soundtrack influenced the play.
Express your opinion of the performance. In your final paragraph, talk about how it affected you and how you reacted. Try to be as fair and objective as possible, while backing up opinions with valid and solid arguments. Do not be too critical, try to separate the play, before judging it as a whole. Avoid clichéd evaluation such as "I give this play 4 out 5 stars."
