Does stage direction provide clues for character intention?

Stage directions provide important clues about the character’s intentions and motivations, and they help shape the actor's performance. When we read a stage direction of a character crying or laughing, we can infer the character's emotional state and intentions and play the character accordingly. Stage directions also provide information regarding gestures, facial expressions and movements.
