What was the first cartoon to use storyboards?

The first cartoon to use storyboards was Winsor McCay's Gertie the Dinosaur, released in 1914. McCay drew 10,000 individual pictures to create the cartoon, and he used a storyboard to plan out the action. This allowed him to create a more fluid and coherent cartoon, and it set the standard for future animated films.
