How to Make a Puppet Dance

Puppet theater is an entertaining teaching tool that kids enjoy. Puppets make instant friends with kids because they are non-threatening and goofy and when they teach, kids listen without even knowing that they are being taught. One way to make your puppet fun and happy in your theater production is to make him do a goofy dance. The following will show you how.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase 2 arm rods for your puppet and attach one to each arm.

    • 2

Hold both rods in your left hand if you are right handed while the right hand is in the puppet. If you are having trouble holding the rods, hold them together by placing thick rubber bands around them.

    • 3

Move the arm rods to the left of the puppet while moving the body of the puppet to the right. Keep the head straight up and down in alignment with the body while moving the puppet.

    • 4

Alternate this movement having the body go one way and the arms the other in a dance motion.

    • 5

Make the puppet's head rock slightly back and forth while doing the dance, while keeping the head from going too far to the right or left.

    • 6

Give the puppet character by opening the mouth in a smile while he is dancing.

    • 7

End your dance in a finale by pulling the head back to the side and open the mouth wide. Bring one hand up to the side of the face and shake the hand to end the dance. If you have rubber bands around the rods, just hold up both hands to one side.
