Ideas for Stage Scenes

Few things compare to being part of a live theatre production. Performing on the stage can be both exhilarating and a bit frightening at the same time. If you are looking for a piece to perform, there are a wide-array of scenes you can choose from. It is always important to select a scene for the performance that matches both the experience and age of the actors.
  1. Building Improvisational Skills

    • Some scenes can help actors build on their improvisational skill-set by asking them to draw on their own imaginations to complete a scene. An improvisational piece can begin with one or more actors being given a set of parameters or facts about the scene and their character. They are asked to complete the scene through improvisation based on these facts. Another approach is to provide a musical soundtrack to actors and ask them to create a scene based on the music offered.

    Fairy Tales

    • If your actors are children or teens, a traditional fairytale might be the perfect choice from which to draw scenes. Children need not perform the entire story, but instead can do selected scenes that are particularly dramatic, funny or otherwise engaging. For adult actors, an amusing or unorthodox take on a fairytale or fable can be a unique and unexpected treat for an audience or a way to have your audition -- be it for a theater department or play -- stand out from the crowd.

    Compilations of Scenes

    • There are several useful sources for finding the perfect scene for you dramatization. For aspiring actors, numerous books have been put together specifically for those who are looking for certain types of pieces, from one man (or woman) soliloquies, to pieces that involve smaller groups of actors. These scenes can be further broken down into subcategories including comedic, dramatic, or topical. Of course, one of the best places to look for scenes to perform is within the pages of plays, from "Much Ado About Nothing" to "The Glass Menagerie."

    Write Your Own Scene

    • If you are looking for a scene you can put your whole self into, writing your own might be a good approach for you. Perhaps you are passionate about a particular subject, such as the environment, or materialism in society, or hypocrisy in politics. By writing your own scene, you decide on the words that come out of your character's mouth and how he or she uses props or body language to convey the “truth” of the topic.
