Who is Carl Luce in the catcher rye?

Carl Luce is one of the supporting characters in the novel The Catcher in the Rye by J. D. Salinger. He is a literary critic and a friend of the protagonist, Holden Caulfield's, older brother, D.B. He's a playwright who is a graduate of Princeton University and published "Narrative of a Horse Race."

Although he is never actually seen in the book, Holden mentions him a few times.

Holden is not a big fan of Luce's work and considers him to be a phony because of his seemingly pretentious writing style. Holden also believes that Luce is not very intelligent and has no real talent as a writer.

Despite Holden's negative opinion of him, Luce is actually a very successful writer and is well-respected in the literary world. He has published several novels and short stories, and his work has been praised by critics for its originality and depth.
