Why did the globe theatre often close in winter?

The Globe Theatre was an open-air theatre, and as such, it was vulnerable to the weather. In the winter, London's weather is often cold, wet, and foggy, making it difficult to perform outdoors. Additionally, the theatre was lit by candles, which would have been difficult to keep lit in the wind and rain. For these reasons, the Globe Theatre often closed in the winter.
