Why were the against theatre?

The Catholic Church opposed theater in a number of ways:

• It condemned certain types of plays that advocated for religious freedom, challenged the role and privileges of the clergy, or presented negative portrayals of church officials.

• It also condemned the behavior that frequently took place in theaters, including gambling, drunkenness, and prostitution.

• It objected to the mixing of male and female actors, which was seen as immoral.
