How to Go to Graduate School for Acting

There are many paths that one can follow when becoming a professional actor or acting teacher. While some attend auditions and casting calls right out of high school or undergraduate degree programs, others prefer to complete their graduate degree first. By making sure you are prepared for your grad school audition, you stand a better chance of being accepted into an acting program.

Instructions

    • 1

Complete a bachelors degree in fine arts or acting at an accredited university acting program.

    • 2

Maintain a high grade point average during your undergraduate degree program. Graduate schools in acting not only look at your acting ability but also your scholarly ability when deciding on who will be admitted.

    • 3

Take private acting classes with a professional actor or an acting teacher who has been through a graduate program in acting. Request that your training be geared towards preparing you for a graduate school audition/application.

    • 4

Fill out the application form(s) for any graduate acting schools you are applying to. Make sure that you send in all of the required forms and attach any additional information that they request, such as essays, personal statements and letters of recommendation.

    • 5

Prepare all of the material needed for each graduate school audition you are attending. Different schools have different audition requirements, so make sure that you double-check that you have prepared everything each school requires. Many qualified students fail to pass their acting auditions because they overlooked an item on the audition list.
