How to Write a Dance Resume for College

When applying to dance programs or universities that offer dance studies, it is sometimes necessary to send a dance resume. A dance resume is similar to a traditional resume in that it establishes who you are, what you have done and what you are capable of doing in the future. It is different from a traditional resume in that it also lists your physical measurements. Drafting a dance resume is an important step in your transition to a college dance program as well as in aspiring toward a professional dancing career.

Instructions

    • 1

Write your name and contact information at the top of the resume. This information can be in the header.

    • 2

Write a very brief summary of your goals and accomplishments as a dancer. Do not list specific roles here.

    • 3

List each of your dance roles, chronologically, starting with the most recent. Highlight any starring roles you may have had, or any roles for which you understudied. Try to focus on professional shows over class or school performances.

    • 4

Add any notable choreographers, instructors or dancers you have worked with. If you're light on professional experience, put class work or student performances in this section as well. The goal is to show that you are capable of doing the work, so anything that makes you look strong as a dancer is helpful.

    • 5

Add your physical measurements including weight, height and current age. If your school requires it, add a head shot or photograph. Not all colleges require this information, but if you're looking to get into a competitive school with a prestigious dance program, you will likely need to include it.

    • 6

Give your resume to a friend and have them proofread it to ensure it is clear, effective and free of mistakes.
