How to Find Ministry Jobs Dealing With Drama

There are several ways you can look for ministry jobs in drama, whether you are interested in acting or directing. Many churches have drama ministries, however, they primarily rely on volunteer actors. Nonetheless, if you work as a pastor in a church, you may get paid and have the opportunity to be involved in Christian productions within that pastoral role. There are also Christian residential and touring drama organizations where you can seek out a paid position.

Contact large churches in your area to see if they are interested in producing drama presentations. If you have some scripts ready to go and have experience with casting and directing, charge a fee to put on a play for them. If you only interested in acting in a Christian drama, contact churches in your area and ask to be contacted when they hold auditions.

Apply for positions with Christian drama groups and organizations. Some travel on a regular basis so you will need to decide if you are prepared to be on the road a lot. The A.D. Players (adplayers.org) in Houston, Texas, have a resident theater where they perform Christian dramas on a regular basis. Master Arts (masterarts.org) in Grand Rapids, Michigan, puts on four stage shows every year in addition to summer youth presentations. They also have acting camps and several traveling troupes.

Apply for a position with groups such as the Covenant Players (covenantplayers.org). Covenant Players have been presenting Christian dramatic presentations all over the world since 1963. They have over 3,000 plays they can perform. Their headquarters is in Oxnard, California. They send out drama troupes consisting of two to four actors on two major road missions each year. Covenant Players asks for a commitment of two consecutive years.

Become a pastor at a church. Many paid pastoral positions in churches will give you the opportunity to put on Christian plays and be involved in drama ministries. These positions include youth pastors, worship pastors and associate pastors. You would most likely have other responsibilities aside from Christian drama productions but it would give you a full-time paid position that allows you to use your skills in drama-related activities.
