Measure the section of the stage you wish to cover. If the stage section is 10 feet long, add about 30 inches for extra material. Measure the height. The skirt will be bunched, forming a pleat in the skirt. If the stage is 2 feet high, add 2 inches of material to make a thick edge.
Cut the fabric to your specifications. Fold the bottom to the amount of inches versus stage height calculated. Pin the fabric for sewing on the bottom and sides (if necessary).
Sew the sides and bottom of the skirt using a thick, matching thread. Verify that all of the hemmed portions are on the same side of the skirt. Remove pins when you're finished.
Tack the corner of the skirt up using staples. At about every 6 inches, pull out a 2 inch portion of the skirt and pin it back in the opposite direction you are securing the skirt. This will make a pleat. Each pleat will need extra staples to secure it.
Hammer large furniture tacks over all of the visible staples and on every pleat. Keeping the distance of each tack the same will ensure a clean, professional look to your skirt.
