Why was the globe theatre located on south banks of southwark?

The reason for choosing the south bank location can be summed up in one word - space. This was the open area, far enough from the residential part of the city, where theatres could be built without disturbing the city dwellers and where there was enough room for the large crowds the theatres attracted.
