Where did the movie Anna and king take place?

The movie "Anna and the King" is set in the Kingdom of Siam (Thailand). The story is based on the 1862 novel "Anna and the King of Siam" by Margaret Landon. The novel is based loosely on the letters of Anna Leonowens, a governess hired to teach the children of King Mongkut of Siam.
