What were last words in The Iliad?

The Iliad does not end with a character's last words, but rather with a description of the funeral rites for Hector, the Trojan hero.

The final lines of the poem read (in Robert Fagles' translation):

>And so they buried noble Hector, tamer of horses.

The focus is on the conclusion of the story's central conflict, the Trojan War, and the finality of death. The last words spoken in the poem are likely those of the mourners, lamenting Hector's passing and reflecting on the war's tragic impact.
